Napa County is one of California's 58 counties, located north of the San Francisco Bay. It is 47 miles (77km) long and about 24 miles (38km) wide.

Napa Valley is the third largest California county in terms of wine grape acreage planted, after San Joaquin, and Sonoma. Its modern history starts in 1966 with the construction of Robert Mondavi Winery with 46,000 acres (18,620ha) of vines.

Napa County, in particular the Napa Valley A.V.A and its sub-appellation, is the best-known US wine region. For the most part, this reputation has been built on the strength of Napa Valley'x powerful Cabernet Sauvignons and Cabernet-led Bordeaux-style blends. These outstanding wines are producesd by large, well-established wineries as well as by numerous small boutique wineries that have achieved "Cult" status.

Grapes has been grown in Napa since 1830s, and the first winery on the valley was establish in the 1860s. Now Napa has around 45,000 acres (18,000ha) with more than 400 wineries.
