IRISH WHISKEY

Ireland is always a rewarding destination for whiskey fans, even though there are currently only three distilleries actively producing pure pot still, blended and malt whiskies. These few production plants nevertheless offer an impressive range of around 30 different Irish Whisky, some of them not for decades, but still have numerous casks stored in their remaining warehouse.

There is no doubt that Ireland ruled the whisky world in the 19th century. But it didn't last long. The Scots fought back, buying and closing distilleries, war and independence followed, and political measures brought to the industry to its knees, leaving just one company standing: Irish distillers Ltd; and two distilleries: New Midleton in Cork and Bushmills in the far north.

 

The prohibition period in the United States, in particular, plunged the Irish Whiskey industry into a deep crisis. In recent years, many brands that were major players in the whiskey business are being revitalized. A century ago they were able to achieve extraordinary success, only to disappear suddenly from the limelight..
